Magnetic Solutions Delivers its Latest MRT5000 High Throughput Magnetic Annealing System to Major Hard Disk Drive Manufacturer

Magnetic Solutions Limited today announced that a leading North American hard disk drive manufacturer has taken delivery of its flagship high field magnetic annealing system, the MRT5000. The system will be integrated into the company’s leading edge high density disk drive production line beginning this spring.

The MRT5000 has several patented features and offers wafer throughput rates never achieved before during the magnetic annealing process. The tool provides a 5 Tesla magnetic anneal process in a broad range of process environments suitable for manufacture of all classes of read-write head sensors used in high density disk drives.

According to David Hurley CEO of Magnetic Solutions, “The MRT5000 was designed to meet the increasing complexity and higher throughput requirements of its hard disk drive customers as they move to higher areal density drives, perpendicular media, increased substrate size and more elaborate process recipes.”

According to market researchers the number of hard drives shipped annually will increase by 50% between now and 2013. Hurley added, “The MRT5000 offers wafer throughput rates during vacuum anneals double the rate of existing technology on the market today. This means considerable cost savings for our customers.”
