| Magnetic Solutions secures order from leading Japanese Semiconductor Company |
| Magnetic Solutions, a leading provider of process solutions for the production of magneto electronic devices, today announced that it had secured an order for its leading edge magnetic annealing technology from a major Japanese semiconductor manufacturer. The MRT1000 magnetic annealing system is to be delivered by the end of 2002 and will be installed at the Customer's state of the art fab near Tokyo. The tool will be used in the development of MRAM chipsa new type of non-volatile memory. |
| "The MRT1000 is unique in that it incorporates a high strength permanent magnet capable of annealing eight inch wafers with excellent reliability and very low running costs. It is an ideal choice as the MRAM technology moves from the research phase to pilot lines as this is where the manufacturability of the MRAM technology must be seriously considered." said David Hurley, C.E.O. of Magnetic Solutions. "We are pleased that more and more customers are seeing these benefits and this is especially so with Japanese and other South East Asian companies". |
| The MRT1000 is designed to anneal twenty five eight inch wafers in a batch process and it consists of a high vacuum oven surrounded by a high field permanent magnet. The system is a critical enabler for aligning accurately in the pinning layer. The pinning layer is one of the magnetic thin film layers laid down on the silicon substrate in the manufacture of magneto-electronic devices. The tool is also widely used by manufacturers of read/write heads used in the latest generation of high density hard disk drives. |
