MAGNETIC SOLUTIONS SHIPS ITS LATEST ANNEALING TECHNOLOGY TO LEADING HARD DISK DRIVE MANUFACTURER

Dublin, IRELAND

Magnetic Solutions Limited today announced that a leading hard disk drive manufacturer had taken delivery of its latest low field magnetic annealing system, the MRT200, to be used to anneal wafers in the manufacture of read write head sensors used in their high density disk drives.

The MRT200 has several patented features. It offers high wafer throughput, with twenty five (25) wafers being annealed in one batch. The system can be fitted with a permanent magnet or an electromagnet. According to David Hurley CEO of Magnetic Solutions, "The MRT200 was designed to meet the increasing complexity and higher throughput requirements of its hard disk drive customers as they move to higher areal density drives, perpendicular media, increased substrate size and more elaborate process recipes." According to market researchers the number of hard drives shipped annually will increase by 50% between now and 2012. Hurley added, "The MRT200 offers wafer throughput rates during vacuum anneals double the rate of existing technology on the market today. This means considerable cost savings for our customers."
